The Presence of God

“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.”
–Psalm 139:6-12

God Is Everywhere at All Times (Omnipresence) – Omnipresence means always present. God exists everywhere at all times (II Chronicles 2:6; Proverbs 15:3). God goes where others cannot go. God is in Florida, California and China at the same time. God is in Heaven and on earth at the same time. There is not one place where God does not exist. God is everywhere at the same time. God is omnipresent, meaning He is ever-present, everywhere; this does not mean that God is everything (Jeremiah 23:23). God is not far from all of us (Acts 17:27). God is spirit. You cannot see God, but God always sees you. You cannot hide from God (Jeremiah 23:23-24; John 1:18). God cannot be seen by man. God sees all that is done whether it be at noonday or midnight. A person can hide things from family or friends, but no one can hide anything from God (Ephesians 1:23).

The devil is not omnipresent but God is everywhere at all times. Since God is infinite, His being knows no boundaries. This truth is taught throughout the Bible as the phrase “I am with you always” is repeated twenty-two times in the Bible. These were words of assurance given to His disciples just after giving the challenge to take His message to the entire world. God is the great “I AM.” His presence is always present. God has no beginning or end. He just exists. Nothing else in all the universe is self-caused. In fact, if anything else had created Him, that thing would be God. The Bible says, “In the beginning, God.” He was already there. God is omnipresent. God is everywhere — close to everything, next to everyone. “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? He is God.

If God be Almighty, he can lack nothing; all lack speaks weakness. If he doth what he will, he cannot be miserable; all misery consists in those things which happen contrary to our will. There is nothing that can hinder his happiness, because nothing can resist his power. Since he is omnipotent, nothing can hurt him, nothing can strip him of what he hath, of what he is. If he can do whatsoever he will, he cannot lack anything that he wills. He is as happy, as great, as glorious, as he will; for he hath a perfect liberty of will to will, and a perfect power to attain what he will; his will cannot be restrained, nor his power measured. It would be a defect in blessedness, to will what he were not able to do: sorrow is the result of an absence of power, with a presence of will. If he could will anything which he could not effect, he would be miserable, and no longer God: he can do whatsoever he pleases, and therefore can lack nothing that pleases him. He cannot be happy, the original of whose happiness is not in himself: nothing can be infinitely happy, that is limited and bounded.– Stephen Charnock

The Love of God

“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God… for God is love… Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us.” – I John 4: 7-10

God is Love – Love is such an important part of God’s character that John wrote, “God is love.” God did not become love but He is love. God has an agape love that is unconditional. God loves you because of Christ. There is not one thing you can to do to make God love you more and there is not one thing you can do to make God love you less. God simply loves you because of His Son Who gave Himself for you. When God looks at you He does not see your sin, but He sees His Son who took your sins upon Him at Calvary. God loves you. No other religion can claim this fact. No one can say, “Buddha loves me.” Idols cannot return or give love. This means that God’s love for His own is His primary concern. God’s love is not a love of emotion but of action. Love cannot be forced but love must be given. God did not want to control man as robots, but God gave man the freedom to choose. Each person has the free will to choose (Jeremiah 8:3; Joshua 24:15). God’s love is so great that He gave His only Son to bring us into fellowship with Him. God’s love not only encompasses the world, but embraces each of us personally and intimately (1 John 4:7-10). For God so loved the world (you) that He gave His only begotten Son that you would not perish in Hell (John 3:16). He is God.
