There is a card on my refrigerator that’s been there for six months. It is a reminder about my dental appointment. One month ago I received a text message reminding me of the same appointment. One week ago, I got another one, and yesterday another one. This morning, I was awakened by a new text message. Guess who! My dental office reminded me that my appointment was just two hours away. They certainly wanted me to be ready for that appointment! I considered sleeping in or cancelling the appointment. I did not want to hear that I had not done a good job brushing or flossing my teeth. I did not want them to recommend another crown or tell me I needed to have a tooth pulled. But whatever the outcome, the appointment was scheduled. There was no time for me to do what I had not done faithfully for the past 6 months.

The Bible speaks of an appointment we all have. “For as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Heb. 9:27). Statistics say that 100% of people will die, but the Bible tells us of one other possibility. Some Christians will still be alive at the time of Jesus Christ’s return to take His children home. He will come “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye” (1 Cor. 15:52). Whether your appointment is with death or with the Rapture, it is coming, and the Lord has given us many reminders! We are reminded of death every time we see a hearse or read an obituary. On news reports, we hear daily of sudden and unexpected deaths. We also see signs that Jesus could come back at any time. Jesus spoke of the wars, diseases, earthquakes, hatred, false teachers, increase of sin, and much more (Matt. 24) that show His coming could be very soon. And He told us what to do – to watch (expect Him, be ready) and pray (Mark 13:33-37). Will He find you faithfully serving Him? When your time of death comes or when Jesus returns in the air, be ready for your appointment.

Well, my dental appointment is over – but a new one is scheduled for six months from now. I have my little card to remind me, and guess what text I received 30 minutes after arriving home. You probably guessed it. I have an appointment coming soon!
