Do you remember those tests you took in high school? Often they would have different sections, like True-False, Matching, Multiple Choice, and Fill-in-the-Blanks. If the teacher really wanted to see how much you knew about a topic, she would add an Essay section. For True-False questions, you had a 50% chance of getting it right, even if you knew nothing about the topic. With Matching and Multiple Choice, the correct answer was there… somewhere. All you had to do was choose it. But Fill-in-the-blank questions were a little harder. You had to actually come up with the right answer all on your own, from your memory.
Going into a new year can be like a Fill-in-the-Blank test. In Psalm 6, David told the Lord many of the struggles he was having deep in his soul. He asked for God’s mercy and described his grief. He spoke of his groaning and crying because of his enemies. Then in verse 9, he said, “The Lord hath heard my supplication (prayer); the Lord will receive my prayer.” He basically said that the Lord had done something for him before, and God would do it again. He was depending on God to be faithful and to supply as He had before. He was trusting God’s faithfulness. As we face the unknowns of the future, I encourage you to trust God to do as He has done before. Say like the Psalmist, The Lord has loved me; the Lord will love me. The Lord has supplied for me; the Lord will supply for me. The Lord has led me; the Lord will lead me. The Lord has comforted me; the Lord will comfort me. The Lord has forgiven me; the Lord will forgive me. The Lord has strengthened me; the Lord will strengthen me. The Lord has ____ me; the Lord will _____ me. The Lord is writing the tests for your life this year. Do you remember when God has helped you through situations before? The Lord is faithful and God will help you again!
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father
There is no shadow of turning with Thee.
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be
Great is Thy faithfulness, Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.
