“And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food” (Gen. 2:9). “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food … pleasant to the eyes…she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat” (Gen 3:6). It seems this process continues unto this day. The woman considers what is good for food, then she gives it to her husband and he does eat. What is good food? Is coffee, chocolate or chicken and gravy really good for you? My wife, as Eve looks to see if it is good before she gives it to me to eat. She looks for points, calories and grams. I ask her if food is like football where more points are good. It is not! – Sad. I know little about healthy food. But I can recommend the heavenly food of God’s Word which is good not only for both your physical and spiritual health. It not only tastes good but it is also good for you.
“How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psa. 119:103) – Yummy. It satisfies taste buds. “Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things” (Psa. 103:5). Daily doses are needed to grow spiritually (1 Pet. 2:2). It cleanses your heart (Psa. 119:9). It blesses you (Luke 11:28). It makes you wise (Matt. 7:24). It gives light and understanding (Psa. 119:130). It gives peace of mind and heart (Phil. 4:7) – Yea! It gives rest in times of stress (Matt. 11:28). It gives hope to the hopeless (Titus 2:13) – Amen. It promises eternal life (John 10:28) – Whew! It helps you to fret not (Psa. 37:1), fear not (Psa. 118:6), forget not (Psa. 103:2), and faint not (Gal. 6:9). It promises a future life without tears, death, suffering, and pain (Rev. 21:4-5). It promises that you and your family will prosper with good spiritual health (Deut. 29:9).
This prescription is the Word of God, the only authority, assurance and absolute in this life. Eat the Bread of life (John 6:35) and drink the Water of life (John 4:14) so you will never be spiritually hungry or thirsty again. Great news! You do not need to count points, calories, or grams. It works – Try it! It is sad that some give consideration to bodies but neglect their eternal soul. They remain without hope and without help because they refuse or neglect the one thing that guarantees them hope and spiritual satisfaction. “That ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope” (1 Thess.4:13). “For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness” (Psa. 107:9). Only Jesus Christ can fill your empty, longing, and hungry soul with goodness. No God – No Hope = Know God – Know Hope. This is food for thought! – Selah!
