After a heart attack, a man asked the nurse to please call his daughter.  He explained, “I live alone, and she is the only family I have.” The nurse called and the daughter quickly became upset and cried, “Don’t let him die. I must see him! We had a terrible argument almost a year ago. I haven’t seen him since.  All these months I’ve wanted to ask for his forgiveness. The last thing I said to him was ‘I hate you.'” The daughter begged the nurse to keep him alive until she arrived. The father soon went into cardiac arrest, and code 99 was alerted. The nurse prayed, “O God, his daughter is coming. Don’t let it end this way.” The efforts of the medical team were fruitless. The father died. The daughter arrived too late. The nurse expressed her sorrow and sympathy. The daughter responded, “I never really hated him. I loved him.” The daughter went to her father’s bedside and buried her face in the sheets as she said good-bye.  As she was leaving, she noticed a piece of paper with her name on it. She  read, “My dearest Janie, I love you. I forgive you, I know you love me. I love you too. Daddy.”

A father’s unconditional love looks beyond the faults of his children. A father does not love his children because they do good or bad, but he simply loves them because they are his children. As children of God, there may also be times we will not understand the unconditional love of our Heavenly Father. Maybe you have become bitter or walked away from Him. He has also left you a letter of forgiveness. He writes, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Heb. 13:5). This simply means He will never leave you – never, never, never! He will never forsake you  – Never, never, never! There is not one thing you can do to make God love you more, and there is not one thing you can do to make Him love you less. He loves you because you are His child. His ears are always listening, His arms are always open, His love never fails. Our Heavenly Father loves you, you, you, and even you! On this Father’s Day, take time to look up, and say, “My Heavenly Father, I love you.” He will respond to your heart, “I love you too.” Happy Father’s Day!
