What is the favorite word on Valentine’s Day? The number one word is love. Then following is candy, hearts, cards, flowers, chocolates, and much more chocolate. It seems love is something you experience but cannot explain. As the Scot said, “It is better felt than telt.” Love is like the measles it breaks out and cannot be hid. There are many definitions because there are many different views of love. There is a spiritual love for God, Jesus Christ, Scriptures, church and the family of God. A self love for YOU! A significant love for your mate. A special love for your children, grandchildren, family and friends. A sacred love for your country. Guys: A select love for favorite teams. What is love? Some men say, “I love pizza, football, my dog, my truck, my wife and it does not have to be in that order.” Dennis the Menace said, “I love her. She smells like peanut butter.” Deaf people often sign, “ILY.” Some mention it, and some mean it. Some say love makes you flushed, lightheaded with a tingling feeling, Well, so does COVID.
My Valentine Message: Love Knows (John 13:35). Love Shows (I John 3:18). Love Glows (Matt. 5:16). Love Grows (2 Cor. 5:17). Love Goes (Mark 16:15). Love Flows (Phil. 1:5). Love Owes (John 15:13). Some feel that love is shown and proven with gifts or personal sacrifices. “She loves me more than you. She does… you don’t.” But real love is giving not taking. Love seeks to please the other person. The best things in life are not things, but people. Don’t love things, love people. You can give without loving but you cannot love without giving. “For God so loved the world that he gave…”
Love is doing right. Love is a choice. Love endures. Love never fails. Love sacrifices. Love forgives. Love loves. Love is the greatest of these and always abides (1 Cor. 13:1-13). There is no substitute for love. Love is understood in all languages. The Lord said, “A new commandment (11th) I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you” (John 13:34). You display your love more with your life than your lips. Everyone loves to be loved. As God loves us, we are to love others. God’s unconditional love means there is not one thing you can do to make God love you more or make God love you less. God does not love you for what you do, but because of Who He is. Dear friend, you may die unsaved, but you will not die unloved (John 3:16). God is Love (I John 4:8). Incomprehensible! “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1John 4:10). This Valentine’s Day, don’t forget God loves you, you, and even YOU!
