With all my preparations, considerations, meditations, anticipations, and determinations, it still seems I never meet my expectations. I have learned that as long as we have people, we will have problems. As one pastor said, “We would have a good church if it wasn’t for the people.” Many times we are blindsided, face traffic jams, hit all the potholes, make wrong turns. Even our GPS recalculates over and over again. As we travel in life, there seem to be winding mountains, low valleys, rain, sleet, snow, fog, and road repairs. Then there are serious falls or sudden calls, an alarming email, or an alert text. In politics it seems congress is confused. You can’t put stock in the stock market. It seems many leaders are both deaf and blind. Common sense has become uncommon. But thank God there are also some good moments of great memories, happy happenings, and eventful events. In reality, we just don’t know what’s around the next bend in the road, or around the next corner. Life is full of the unexpected and unknown. But what should we expect?

Both “mama” and “James” said that “there would be days like this.” James gives warning words of wisdom, “Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.” (James 4:13-15). It is as the song written by Alison Krauss, “I don’t know about tomorrow. I just live for day to day.” But as Paul Harvey often said, “Now the rest of the story.” Let’s read all of the song, “I don’t know about tomorrow. I just live for day to day. I don’t borrow from the sunshine. For it’s skies may turn to gray. Many things about tomorrow I don’t seem to understand. But I know who holds tomorrow and I know who holds my hand.” Notice as a father and son walk together, the son does not hold the father’s hand. The father holds his hand. As the Heavenly Father walks with His son, He holds his hand. I don’t know about tomorrow. There is much I don’t understand. But but I know who holds tomorrow and I know He holds my hand. And that’s e’nuff for me.
