Notice that as Jesus spoke to the woman at the well, He openly stated for the first time that He is the Promised Messiah. For thousands of years Israel looked for the Promised One, Messiah to come. Each generation looked for the Promised One.  “And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? (Luke 7:19). The Lord did not answer but simply told them to tell John what they had seen (Luke 7:22). But Jesus did respond and reveal to the woman at the well when she said, “I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.”  Jesus said, “I that speak unto thee am he.” (John  4:25-27). Also in judgment He again responds and reveals that He is Christ the Messiah,  “Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ (Messiah), the Son of the Blessed? And Jesus said, I am (Mark 14:61). Note: Christ (Greek) is the word for Messiah. Also, Christ is not His last name but who He is. He is Jesus the Christ (Messiah). After the resurrection, Jesus also responds and reveals who He is to doubting Thomas, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6-7).

C.S. Lewis said, “Could it be that Jesus is who He said He was. Perhaps He made what seemed to be radical statements because they were true and real.” The religious crowd focused on Law instead of the Lord, and failed to see what 500 witnesses saw; the Promised One, the Messiah, the Risen Lord and Saviour (1 Cor. 15:6). Know that Jesus Christ is who He said He is. “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow … And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil. 2:9-11). Don’t be like the religious crowd and miss your opportunity to KNOW He is who He says He is. Bow now and confess Him as your Lord and Saviour. Believe He is who He says He is, “The Messiah, the Promised One, the Lord Jesus Christ, and coming Kings of Kings (Rev. 19:6). Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Only Christianity has a risen Saviour. As Easter nears, let’s not forget His assuring and astounding words to the woman, but most of all let’s remember He is who He says he is, “I am He, Messiah, the Promised One.” Believe: He is who He said He is.
