Many people still have worries and fears at the beginning of a new year. Do you remember when it was going to be the year 2000 (Y2K)? There were many emotions and fears in our hearts. This year we might fear COVID coming back, financial failure, or war. Today, It seems there are many people which have no hope “… that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope” (1 Thess. 4:13)

I’ve seen empty looks on the faces of people all around. They are showing fear, loneliness, or disappointment for many reasons. Some may have lost a precious loved one, which is difficult. Some may have worries about their future health or finances. Some may have moved to a new area with a language and culture barrier. Some may have experienced a broken relationship that needs to be mended. Some are going through the fear of war. These are only a few reasons why people are fearful, lonely, or sad.

I do know one thing that will never change – Jesus Christ. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He will be with me wherever I go, for He said, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5). He will be my hiding place and help in time of trouble (Psalm 46:1). Even when friends leave me, I am never alone (John 16:32).

Going forward, you can make friends and show kindness (Proverbs 18:24). There is always someone who needs a smile, a hug, a pat on the back, or words of encouragement. Start this New Year off by reaching out to someone who is discouraged or lonely, and watch God do amazing things. If you change your thinking, then you will change your feelings. Make it a daily habit to praise the Lord seven times a day (Psalm 119:164). Don’t focus on frets – Focus on faith!
