“I am thy servant.” Three times David declares he is the Lord’s servant: “I am thy servant” (Psa. 119:125; 143:12). “O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant …(because) thou hast loosed my bonds” (Psa.116:16). “Thy” servant (155) and “servant” (462) is found many times. Paul states: “Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle” (Rom.1:1). James states: “James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ” (James 1:1). Peter states: “Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ” ( 2 Pet. 1:1). Jude states: “Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ” (Jude 1:1). John states he is a servant (Rev.1:1). Notice Paul, and Peter put “servant” ahead of “apostleship.”
Christians should also be known as “servants” of the Lord Jesus Christ. After salvation you should present yourself for service (Rom. 12:1). You are a servant by choice. Satan cannot make you sin, and the Lord will not make you serve. You do not serve to get. You serve “because” of what you have been given.
A story was told of a slave being sold at auction. One man bid, again and again. The slave sternly said, “I will not serve.” The man won the bid. The servant again said, “I will not serve.” The man removed his chains and said, “I bought you to set you free.” The slave wept and said, “Master, what will you have me to do?” Paul said, “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? (Acts 9:6). After the Lord loosed my chains with a new life (2 Cor. 5:17), I can also say, “Lord, I am thy servant.”
I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, power, persuasion, or popularity. I am thy servant. I will not look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still. I am thy servant. I will not give up, shut up, let up or slow down. I am thy servant. I do not have to have recognition, praise, compliments, motivation, or rewards. I am thy servant. My past is forgiven, my present is fulfilled, my future is before me. I am thy servant. My face is set, my feet go forward, my heart is full, my road is narrow, my path is smooth, my focus is above. My mission is missions. I am thy servant. My goal is the Gospel, my guide is God, my authority is the Word of God, my hope is in Heaven.I am thy servant. I will fall forward, I will die climbing, I will keep plodding forth (Phil. 3:13).” I am thy servant. I will not stop, I will not quit, I will not give up, I will not give in. I am thy servant. I must go until you come or I depart (2 Tim. 4:6).
My desire is to hear “Well done, thou good and faithful servant (Matt. 25:23).” “I am thy servant?”
