I cannot tell you how many times people have told me what the Deaf cannot do. I have always told these people that there is only one thing the Deaf I have met, cannot do – they cannot hear through their ears. They can hear through their eyes, so there is really nothing a Deaf person cannot do. I have found Deaf people to be wonderful people who are amazing! One of the things that has always been a goal of mine in ministry is to clearly teach Deaf people what I have learned from the Bible. I believe that God allows each of us to learn some things from the Bible that He expects us to pass along to those we meet. If we each did this, we would all know more about the Bible! God made us to need each other and to depend on the spiritual gift that He has given us. I have been blessed because I was raised in a Christian home where the Bible was loved, taught, and practiced. Now I have the responsibility to take what I have learned and pass it along to others. God called me to do this with the Deaf in 1985. Ever since, I have been trying to take the Bible truths I have learned and make them clear for the Deaf to be able to learn. I love teaching our Deaf friends, because most of them are very hungry to learn God’s Word. Some people have told me that Deaf cannot learn some of the things that the Bible teaches. I do not believe that is true! I am honored to teach Deaf people the deeper truths of the Bible. Please don’t tell me that Deaf cannot learn the Bible! I believe the Bible. Jesus said, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come” (John 16:13). The greatest teacher anyone could have is the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised all believers that the Holy Spirit would guide each of us into all the truths of His Word. This is true for Deaf and Hearing! Praise God for the depth of His Word. Deaf … keep your hunger for God’s Word, and keep learning!
