At Silent Word Ministries, I have the title of Director of Outreach. What exactly does a Director of Outreach do? I am glad you asked that question! It is my responsibility to look for ways that Silent Word Ministries can reach out into the Deaf world in different ways than we have in the past. In this issue of The Silent Word newspaper, you might notice an advertisement for the SWM Northeast Deaf Camp. This is one of the ways SWM is reaching out! Last year, we attended a weekend Deaf Retreat at Camp Odosagih in Machias, NY. We have spoken at this retreat in the past, but this year was a bit different. I preached and taught Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Terry taught the ladies on Sunday morning. We were having dinner one night when a veteran missionary, Lois, asked me a pointed question. She explained that she was 90+ years old, and that she could no longer organize this Deaf Retreat. She looked right in my eyes, and asked me if I would take the responsibility. I told her I would pray about it. Terry and I prayed, and the next day I told her that we would take the responsibility, but that I was not interested in coming for a weekend only. We discussed with the Director of Camp Odosagih, and he agreed to give us one week to hold Deaf Camp. We were amazed how God brought all the details together for this camp to happen this year, June 6-11. Pastor Chris Harris and his wife, Diana, will be with us to help us with the speaking times. We will have separate times for men and women, but also times all together for good preaching. The camp is on a beautiful lake, about 45 miles southeast of Buffalo, NY. We believe God wants us to use this week as a time of outreach to unsaved Deaf, as well as a time of growth for Deaf who are saved. Please take time to look at our ad in this newspaper, and reach out to me if you would like details about the camp. You can reach me by clicking here. Please pray with us that God will help us to reach more and more Deaf with the Gospel as we reach out! Also pray that we will be able to help Deaf grow in their walk with God! Thank you, and God bless you!
