“The days of our years are threescore and ten (70 yrs); and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years (80 yrs)… it is soon cut off, and we fly away… So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom” (Psa. 90:10,12). There is wisdom in numbering our days. These scriptures state the average life is about 70 years, but if you live 80 years, you have 10 years of added grace. So lets number our days. Number how many days have passed in your life and how many days, Lord willing, could be ahead (James 4:13).

Now if you have a calculator insert your age times times 365 days this is how many days your have lived. Next insert 70 years X 365 days to learn how many days you could live. Notice it states number days, not weeks, months, or years. The Bible refers to days of our life. “Give us this day…” (Matt. 6:11). Day is mentioned in 1,540 verses. So lets consider each day. A day has 24 hours; 1,440 minutes; and 86,400 seconds. Each year you live 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8,760 hours, 525,600 minutes, and 31, 536,000 seconds. The average life is 70 years, 25,550 days, 613,200 hours, 36,920,000 minutes, or 2,207,520,000 seconds.

So let us number our days. This day you have been given soon will pass and never return. Each day the seconds soon become minutes, and hours. Soon the days become weeks, months, and years. At any time there could be just a step, or breath between you and death. There is wisdom in numbering your days. What have you done today? What have you left undone? Are you prepared to meet God? You could make eternal changes in just a few moments (John 1:12). Don’t die without Christ. The Lord directs our stops and our steps (Psa. 37:23).

Each day it only takes a few seconds to help or hurt someone. In just a few seconds lives can be changed and never be the same again. We need to number our days so we will not have regrets of wasted, unused yesterdays. You cannot change the past but you can change the future. Seek to make the days ahead the best you have ever known. Live so you will not be ashamed of yesterday or afraid of tomorrow. One man prayed, “Lord thank you for this new day that you have made. It is a day we have never had before.” One lady said, “Today, is the best day of my life.” A little boy asked, “What about the time you were married?” She answered, “That was my best day then, but today is now my best day, and tomorrow again will become my best day.” Make today the best day of your life. So let us number our days and have a Happy New Year.
