Salvation is Forever

Salvation is Forever

The Bible teaches that those who have been saved through faith in Christ and by the grace of God are eternally secure (Ephesians 2:8-9; John 5:24). Salvation is a one-time permanent act of God that cannot be undone.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24).

Salvation in Christ is forever because of the following truths in the Scriptures. These happen when you have repentance of sin towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. This is called being “saved” (Acts 16:31).

When You Are Saved…

  1. God gives you new life in Christ that is eternal. You will never perish. The words “eternal life” are found 26 times in the New Testament. The words “life eternal” are found four more times. (John 10:28; Matthew 19:16; Luke 10:25; John 3:15; 17:2; Romans 5:21; 6:23; Titus 3:7; I John 2:25; 5:11-13; Jude 1:21; Matthew 25:46; John 17:3) The words “everlasting life” and “life everlasting” are found 14 times in the New Testament. See Matthew 19:29; Luke 18:30; John 3:16; 3:36; 4:14; 5:24 6:27, 40; 6:47; 12:50; Acts 13:46; Romans 6:22; Galatians 6:8; I Timothy 1:16).
  2. You have been bought with a price, redeemed by the blood of Christ, and given the complete forgiveness of sin because of the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7). Salvation is a permanent gift from God. You do not earn or pay for a gift. Christ paid for your gift.
  3. You have a new position in Christ. Your life is hid with Christ in God (Colossians 3:1; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 1:3; 2:6; 3:6).
  4. You are seated with Christ in Heavenly Places (Ephesians 1:14; 2:6).
  5. You have the Holy Spirit of God living in you (John 14:17; Romans 8:11; I Corinthians 3:16; 2 Timothy 1:14).
  6. You have God Himself living in you (I John 3:24; I John 4:15).
  7. You have been born again spiritually by the Spirit of God and are born into the family of God (John 3:3-8).
  8. You are adopted into the family of God (Ephesians 1:5; Galatians 3:26; John 1:12).
  9. Nothing can remove you from the Father’s hand (John 10:28). Also, nothing, or no one, can remove you from the hand of the Savior, Jesus Christ (John 10:29). Not even the believer himself is powerful enough, or sinful enough, to remove himself from the almighty hand of the Father or the Savior.
“All that the Father giveth Me shall come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37).
  10. You are a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). You are now in Christ.
  11. You are accepted in the Beloved, Jesus Christ, by God’s grace (Ephesians 1:6).
  12. You are no longer under condemnation because of your sin (Romans. 8:1; John 5:24).
  13.  Your transgressions (sins) are no longer imputed (charged) to you (2 Corinthians 5:19).
  14. The Holy Spirit intercedes (prays) for you (Romans 8:26-27).
  15. Jesus Christ Himself intercedes for you (Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25).
  16. You have been sealed with the Holy Spirit of God (Ephesians 1:13; 4:30; Romans 8:23.)
  17. You are “…kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (I Peter 1:5). God’s omnipotent power can save a lost sinner once and for all, forever.
  18. You are placed into the body of Christ, as a member of His body (Romans 12:5; I Corinthians 12:12, 13, 18, 24, 25, 27). The Holy Spirit does not amputate parts of the body of Christ for any reason. If someone could be removed from the body of Jesus Christ spiritually, then that body, the church, would be incomplete.
  19. You will be conformed (changed) to the image of the Son of God (Romans 8:29).
  20. You have the assurance that “He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” See Philippians 1:6. The Holy Spirit began the work of conforming us to the image of Jesus Christ by imputing (giving) righteousness at the moment of salvation. The Holy Spirit promises to continue that conforming work until the return of Jesus Christ for His own.
  21. You have obtained (received) an eternal inheritance (Ephesians 1:11; I Peter 1:4).
  22. You have a living, secure hope of “… an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in Heaven for you” (I Peter 1:3-4). This comes because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This living hope and this inheritance will not fade away because of any sin or failure, but is reserved in Heaven for all who have become children of God.
  23. You are saved, justified, and sanctified. Later, you will be glorified (Romans 8:28–30). This process never breaks down and will eventually be completed when you are raised from the dead and given a glorified body in Heaven.
  24. You are saved through the preaching of the everlasting Gospel of Jesus Christ (Revelation 14:6). The Gospel of Jesus Christ that saves from sin is everlasting itself, thus producing an everlasting salvation.
  25. You were not saved by your own works, but by the grace of God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross (Ephesians 2:8–9; Titus 3:5–7). Therefore, you cannot lose your salvation by your own works, since you were not saved by your own works in the first place.
  26. You will not have to suffer through eternal fire and eternal damnation because of your eternal salvation in Jesus Christ (Matthew 18:8; 25:41, 46; 2 Thessalonians 1:9-10; 5:8-10). Genuine believers have already been delivered from the divine wrath that is to come upon a wicked world.
  27. You are not in danger of losing your salvation since you will never stand at the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11–15); however, you may be in danger of losing rewards at the Judgment Seat of Christ for the “wood, hay, and stubble” of your life and ministry (I Corinthians 3:10–15; 2 Corinthians 5:10–11).
  28. You are saved by an eternal Savior for an eternal kingdom (2 Peter 1:11).
  29. You have been saved to the praise of the glory of God (Ephesians 1:12, 14).

God’s Promise

“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (I John 5:11-13).
