This is an article about my chair. Why? Because I love my chair. It was a gift from my family. My chair is large, comfortable, and cozy. It fits me just right. As I travel, I have never seen another chair that can compare to my chair. Sometimes visitors sit in my chair. It bothers me. I want to say, “Stay out of my chair.” So if you want to please me then stay out of my chair. With this thought I realized that Scriptures reveal God also has a special throne/chair. “Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever” (Heb. 1:8). Thy throne means it belongs to Him. So if you want to please Him then stay out of His chair.

When I sit in His chair, it means I am sitting in and occupying His place that belongs only to Him. I found several times times when the Lord could say, “Stay out of my chair.” When I seek vengeance to get even with others, I am sitting in His chair as vengeance belongs only to the Lord (Rom. 12:19). When I exalt myself, I am sitting in His chair because only the Lord is to be exalted (Psa. 57:11). Once as I was waxing elephants (eloquent), my wife, Carlene, said, “It’s not just about you.” I realized that it is not about me but Him. When my big ego exalts me the Lord could say, “Stay out of my chair.”

When I judge others, I am sitting in His chair because all judgment is committed unto the Lord (John 5:22). When I try to build my church with my deacons, my choir, my members, my staff, and my programs, I am sitting in His chair because the Lord said, “I will build my church.” It is not my church but it is His church. I need to stay out of His chair. When I seek to become the great “I AM” seeking credit and compliments, I am sitting in His chair because all glory and praise belongs only to Him. “That God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen” (1 Pet. 4:11).

In this world of atheism, many gods, churches, and religions we need to realize and recognize that there is only one God who is worthy of our love, devotion and worship. “And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth… heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne” (Rev. 5:13). As our forefathers, we need to respect and honor Him as He sits on His throne in all power, honor, and glory. As long as God is our LORD, we will be a blessed nation. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.” (Psa. 33:12). One day as He sits on His throne, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess He is king of kings and Lord of Lords (Rom. 14:11). That special royal chair belongs only to Him. He alone is worthy to sit in His chair. So if you want to please the Lord, stay out of His chair.
