“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35). The early believers were first called Christians because they followed the example of Christ. “By this shall all men know ye are my disciples.” What was “this” that caused them to be called Christians? What is “this” that has been changing lives in all generations?
“This” was Barnabus being kind and encouraging others (Acts 11:22-25).
“This” was Onesiphorus often refreshing others (II Tim. 1:16).
“This” was young Timothy and Titus comforting many (2 Cor. 7:13).
“This” was Priscilla and Aquila showing Christian hospitality (I Cor. 16:19).
“This” was Luke being a faithful friend (II Tim. 4:11).
“This” was Dorcas using her gifts to be a blessing to others (Acts 9:36-39).
“This” was Paul mentoring and discipling others to follow Christ.
“This” was the exhortation of Peter. “This”was the leadership of James.
“This” was the love of Apostle John.
“This” was early Christians, “…continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” (Acts 2:46-47). Because of “this,” many were added to the church. How do people know we are Christians? It has not changed. By “This” (love) shall all men know that we are Christians (John 13:35). “This” worked then and “this” still works today! By “this” (compassion) we make a difference. (Jude 22). By “this” we are salt to season lives (Matt. 5:13). By “this” we are the “light” that shines hope into a dark world (Matt. 5:14). So don’t let the light go out. When “this” is absent we cease to be the “salt” and “light.” Lives are not changed and they remain in darkness. What do all men see in your life? By “_______” shall all men know you are a __________.” Remember, your works speak louder than your words. “This” is also the gospel (Romans 1:15). “This” is also Christ (Acts 4:13). Without the Gospel and Christ no one is saved – No one! Christ is still in the life changing business (2 Cor. 5:17). The need is not to save America, but to save Americans, then we will save America. We are still the salt and light to this world. The greatest testimony to the world is still a changed and consistent Christian life. With “this,” we can change the world for Christ. The purpose of our existence is to take “this” to “them.”
