At the burning bush, God said to Moses, “Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you” (Exodus 3:10-14). I AM expresses the truth that God is the eternal, self-existing One. Meaning He always exists. I AM from everlasting to everlasting. The Lord again re-introduces Himself when He told the Jews: “Before Abraham was, I am” (John 8:58). He first introduced Himself as “I am.” in Genesis 15:1. “I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.” He continued to introduce Himself as “I am” unto Revelation 22:16, “I am… the bright and morning star.”
In the Gospels, He personally introduces Himself as “I AM” seven times. “I am the bread of life… the living bread” (John 6:35, 51). “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12). “I am the door of the sheep” (John 10:7). “I am the good shepherd” (John 10:11). “I am the resurrection, and the life” (John 11:25). “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). “I am the true vine” (John 15:1).
God told Moses, “I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people… out of Egypt. And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh?” God said, “Thus shalt thou say… I AM hath sent me unto you.” Later, as the time nears, Moses again hesitates and procrastinates and says, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent… I am slow of speech, and (I am) of a slow tongue” (Exodus 4:10).
As Moses you may also say, “I am uneducated, unworthy, useless, unable and unqualified to do the work of God. As Moses you are looking at the wrong I AM. Moses, with the help of Aaron and God finally did it and so can you. God can do for you what you cannot do for yourself – If you will let Him. Think, “I can do all things through Christ.” Do, “For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not” (2 Cor. 8:12).
Simply do what you can! Know the great I AM is with you and you can do what He wants you to do. Do it and stop looking at the wrong I am.
