In the late 1800s a preacher talked to a young man about salvation. The preacher asked if the young man was a Christian. He said, “No.” The preacher asked, “Why not?” The young man said that Christianity was okay, but he did not feel he needed to become a Christian.
Are You a Sinner? – The preacher asked if the young man was a sinner. He said that he thought he was a sinner, but not a very bad sinner. The preacher asked the young man to read Matthew 22:37-38. The young man read: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.”
First and Great Commandment – The preacher asked what commandment Jesus was talking about. The young man answered that it was the first and great commandment.
First and Great Sin – The preacher then asked what would be the first and great sin. The young man answered that the greatest sin would be to not love God.
Have You Kept God’s Great Commandment? – The preacher asked the young man if he loved God with all of his heart, soul, and mind. The young man quickly understood that he was not as good as he once thought. His sin separated him from God. The young man humbled himself and prayed to be saved.
Marriage and Home – The best thing you can do for marriage, home, or ministry is to love God. If you love God well, it will be easier to love others well.
