Have you ever thought, “What is the meaning of life?” “Is this all there is?” Well you are not alone. Solomon, the great wise man, also asked these questions. “And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven…I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit (Eccl.1:13-14). Notice“under the sun” is mentioned 29 times. He concluded that life was vane (empty), frustrating, senseless, worthless, futile, hopeless, pointless and vexation (meaningless). Why? He looked in all the wrong places. Solution: He should have looked “above the sun.” “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” (Col. 3:2). The One abovethe sun is in control of all that is underthe sun. Focus above the sun not below the sun. “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible… all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist” (Col. 1:16-17). By Him all things consist and exist, including you. Realize life without God is just a turning and tossing life of frustration as a termite in a yo-yo. Only God can satisfy that empty longingHe put within you to draw you to Him. “For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness” (Psa. 107:9). God has “hardwired” us with a vacuum or emptinessonly He can fill. Looking at spring water will never quench your thirst. Smelling aromas of a bakery will never satisfy your hunger. This is a thirst and hunger only God can quench and fill.

Others are not conscious of your unfilled life without peace. But you and God know it. Many live and die with a meaningless life of emptiness. It would have better if they had never been born (Mark 14:21). As one man said, “I finally reached the top and nothing was there.” “Outward” pleasures cannot bring “inward” peace. “The best things in life are notthings.” As birds have a driving desire to migrate, you are also “hardwired” with an instinctive driving desire to satisfy that longing within your soul. It is there whether you want it or not. Nothing under the sun will ever satisfy that emptiness or fill that hunger. You must look above the sun to the Son.” “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:7). “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life” (1 John 5:12). Is your life under or above the sun?
