A sign at the funeral home read, “Plan now for final preparations.” I then thought of Paul making preparations for his final departure. He said, “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand… Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness” (2 Tim. 4:6-8).  A “departure” (ETD) means there is an “arrival” (ETA). Some countries at funerals say, “He has arrived.” Why? You are absent here and present there (2 Cor. 5:8). Your body will die but you will still live. Are you ready for your departure? It is your choice!

“Carl McCunn (1946-1981) was an American wildlife photographer who photographed the Alaskan wilderness. In March 1981, he flew to a remote lake about 225 miles northeast of Fairbanks, Alaska. He planned to photograph wildlife for about five months. He made many preparations for the trip. He had 500 rolls of film, 1,400 pounds of provisions, two rifles, and a shotgun. But in early August he suddenly realized that he had not made plans for his departure. He planned every detail for his arrival and expedition, but neglected plans for his departure. He wrote in his diary, “I think I should have used more foresight about arranging my departure. I’ll soon find out.” On February 2, 1982, a ski-equipped plane landed at the lake. They found his tent and discovered his frozen corpse, along with his 100-page diary.” (wikipedia).

What about your departure? “It is estimated that there are over 56 million deaths occurring annually which translates to approximately 4.6 million deaths monthly, 150,000 daily, 6,000 hourly, 106 every minute, and nearly 2 deaths every second.” – Medindia.net. One day there will be one last book, chapter, paragraph, sentence, word that closes with one last period. One day you will run your last lap, take your last breath, walk your last step, see your last sunset, touch a loved one for the last time, tell someone for the last time, “I love you.”

(ETA) You will sleep one last time and wake up in eternity. It is sad but most people seem to be like Carl McCunn who made detailed plans for life, but never made plans for his departure. Have you made your final preparations?  Are you ready to meet God? Don’t die saying, “I think I should have used more foresight about arranging my departure. I’ll soon find out.” Well, you could soon find out! You had your time of arrival and one day you will have your final departure. There is a Heaven to gain, and a Hell to shun. Where is Hell? It is at the end of a Christless life. No one can go to Heaven without Christ – No one! (John 14:6). “Are you now ready?”
