Big announcement from Missionaries Ben & Marie Muldoon and their three babies, Silent Word Ministries International. “We have arrived in Bucharest, Romania.” Their calling and mission is to establish a deaf church and train men in the local church to reach the silent world. Language school to learn the spoken and written Romanian language is top priority in their beginning ministry there. Romanian sign language will follow. What’s Up? Sympathy to the family of deaf friend, Ivan Brent Richins (64), who passed away on December 10, 2022, in Tucson, Arizona. He was a faithful member of Quail Run Deaf Baptist Church, Oro Valley, AZ, Pastor Ronnie King. He will be greatly missed.

What’s Up? Sympathy to the family of Donald S Gould Sr, (92) of Carthage, Missouri, who passed away on January 3, 2023. Don along with his dear wife, Pearl (still living), had a heart and love for reaching the Deaf with the Gospel. They worked tirelessly for many years serving the Deaf in many places and under many circumstances. Don and Pearl were dear friends of Ted & Carlene Camp and of Silent Word Ministries. Don was a wonderful example of a faithful and loving Christian.


What’s Up? Missionaries to the Deaf, Robert & Lisa Gunter, are excited to be a part of ARM (Assisting and Relief Missionaries) with BIMI. This allows them to be more flexible in their ministry to the deaf, both in the states and internationally. Currently they are working with a local church in North Carolina to start a new deaf ministry. They will be teaching sign language, developing interpreters, and evangelizing the deaf. They will continue to schedule meetings to raise additional support.

What’s Up? Congratulations to SWM’s Joshua (JT) Gorham and Rebekah VanDonkelaar, daughter of SWM’s Rusty and Cassandra VanDonkelaar, on their engagement December 17, 2022. A spring wedding is planned. Both will be great assets to SWM and also the Deaf world. Contact JT by clicking here.

What’s Up? Deaf group in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines, enjoy reading “The Silent Word” newspaper online. They are a delightful group and eager to learn more of God’s Word. Thank you Joann Ibrahim for sharing this news.

What’s Up? Sympathy to the family of Missionary to the Deaf, Lynne Decker (75), Baptist International Outreach, who passed away January 1, 2023, after a three year decline in her health. She worked with the Deaf in Brazil for more than forty years. Though she never married, she adopted 3 Deaf girls and was with her Brazilian family when she passed away. She was buried in Brazil on January 2. Lynne was a faithful servant of the Lord and the Deaf.

What’s Up? Abigail Smith and Michelle Cheatham, both Senior Graphic Design majors at Pensacola Christian College (PCC), recently served under the SWM internship program.
