What’s Up? Congratulations to Hannah VanDonkelaar, daughter of SWM’s Missionaries, Rusty and Cassandra, on her graduation from Woodmont High School, Greenville, South Carolina, on May 31, 2023. She is seeking God’s will for her future plans. Way to go, Hannah!!

Since their wedding, they have been in meetings, ministering to the deaf, and raising support. They are a special dedicated couple, especially to Deaf people. What’s Up? Sympathy to the family of Arthur Grant Dignan, (83) Jefferson City, MO, who passed away on May 12, 2023. In 1958 he graduated from Florida School for the Deaf. In 1971 he graduated from Gallaudet University. He was married to “the love of his life” Joyce Ann Bradley, for nearly 51 years. They had two sons, Randy & Nick (both pastors) and a daughter, Jennifer Morales. Arthur’s brother-in-law, Raymond Bradley (BIMI) led him and his wife to the Lord in 1977. Arthur was a loving father and grandfather, a faithful servant in his church, an educator, an asset to the Deaf community, and a true pioneer for the Deaf culture and ASL. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by many, especially his family.

What’s Up? Congrats to John Mark Quinlan, the 2023 recipient of SWM’s Outstanding Student Award at Harvest Deaf Bible College, Ringgold, GA. The student is chosen by the college staff in recognition for excellence in character and leadership.

What’s Up? Dr. Reggie Rempel and Harvest Deaf Bible College, honored Ted & Carlene Camp for 30 years of Silent Word Ministries, Inc. serving in their home town of Trenton, GA. They added a beautiful “Eagle” to Ted’s collection. Thanks!

What’s Up? Congratulations to Rebekah Barr, daughter of SWM’s Jon & Diane Barr, who recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Associate Degree Nursing Program of Tri-County Technical College in Pendleton, SC. Her nurses “Pinning” service was on May 5, 2023. In July she plans to begin work as a RN in the ER at Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital.


What’s Up? 2nd Annual ASL Ladies Retreat will take place, September 13-16, at Camp Liberty, 483 FCR 275, Oakwood, Texas. It is hosted by Bible Baptist Church for the Deaf and Hearing, Austin, Texas. Special Speaker, Carol King, wife of Pastor Ronnie King, Quail Run Deaf Baptist Church, Oro Valley, AZ.

What’s Up?
Efata School for the Deaf, Lima, Peru will celebrate their 53rd anniversary on June 2 – 4, 2023. Missionary Vernon Miller started the school with 5 children. Missionary Joe Kotvas & his wife, Lisa, are continuing the ministry. For the celebration, special speakers: Missionary Jim Sloan, Rev. Steve Houghton, and Dr Reggie Rempel. Missionary Nancy Burns who served for many years and Robert and Mary (Shepherd) Fuller (Mary served five years) will also join the celebration. Congratulations!

What’s Up? Congratulations to SWMI Missionaries Bruce & Amanda Stuart on the birth of their son, David Joel, March 25, 2023, weighing 8 lbs 4 oz. Big sister, Belle, is excited to welcome her baby brother. The Stuarts are missionaries to Liberia with a focus on the Deaf. They came home for the birth of David and plan to return to Liberia in early summer. Note: SWM is growing and growing in many different ways
