What’s Up? Sympathy to the family of Jeanne F Rae (86), Harrisonburg, Virginia, who passed away January 20, 2020. She and her husband, Roger, have been friends of SWM for many years and have faithfully supported its ongoing outreach to the Deaf community.

What’s Up? Sympathy to the family of Jimmy C Winburn (78), Ringgold, Georgia, who received his heavenly body on February 5, 2020. Jimmy and his wife of 58 years, Geraldine, began learning sign language in 1973 under the tutelage of Ted Camp and Don Cabbage. After serving the deaf in their home church, they moved to Chattanooga where Jimmy was an educator and pastor to the deaf at Tennessee Temple University (picture). Today, because of his influence and leadership, many fine Deaf Christian men and women continue to serve the Lord in varied capacities. Jimmy definitely made a difference in the Christian Deaf world. He is greatly missed.

What’s Up? Dr. Scott Caudill (director of Macedonia Baptist Missions in Brazelton, Georgia), while in a revival at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Trenton, visited SWM. We enjoyed his timely visit and greatly appreciate his mission ministry.

What’s Up? Missionaries to the Deaf Bob & Brenda Himes (Philippines), Bill Rice Ranch Missions, attended SWM’s Fantastic Saturday, Harvest Baptist Church of the Deaf, Ringgold, GA. They are in the States taking care of required business issues. Bob’s health has improved, and he is able to “Sign” again after his recent shoulder surgery. Hundreds, probably thousands of deaf people in the Philippines have heard the Gospel in their language and have accepted Christ as Savior because of the Himes’ ministry. Plus many hearing people have learned sign language and established deaf ministries in their churches. The ministry to the Deaf is ongoing thanks to the training the Himes’ have given.

What’s Up? Congratulations to deaf friend, Tom Adams, Jacksonville, Florida, who retired February 28, 2020, from the United States Postal Service. Tom served faithfully for 31 years. He and his wife, Charlotte, look forward to more time together with family and friends. Thank you, Tom. You are a wonderful example to both deaf and hearing.

What’s Up? Sweet deaf friend, Brenda Lee Wooten (61), Lexington, North Carolina, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 21, 2020. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Welcome, NC, and was involved with the deaf ministry. Ted & Carlene Camp met Brenda when she was a young adult in Detroit, MI. She was involved in deaf ministry with the late Rev. Ed Skaggs and his wife, Phyllis. Her smile and enthusiasm were always encouraging.

What’s Up? Mrs. Felicia Campbell, guidance counselor (CCCD, Knockpatrick campus, Jamaica), is deaf and a graduate of Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia. She has made a huge impact on the island, helping her husband to found deaf churches, leading women’s Bible studies, and daily meetings with deaf kids to discuss anger management, leadership advice, sexual health, budgeting skills, and career plans. Students look up to her because she cares and has led by example. At times she and her husband lobby for the deaf. In 2008 they helped change laws that prohibited the deaf from holding a driver’s license. As a result, Felicia became the first deaf woman to receive a license in Jamaica. Besides all this, she is a great mother and Christian leader. She cares and works tirelessly among school, religious, and governmental systems. She is well known on the island by her big smile and big heart. Deaf people can accomplish amazing things as Felicia has and continues to do.
