When we first went to the Philippines, we began looking for the deaf in our city. One by one we found many deaf that no one had tried to find before. We found one young deaf girl near the sea shore. She did not know signs. She also had some other medical problems with her legs. We began helping her and her family. She began learning signs and learning about Jesus. As she improved in her understanding, she was later saved. Her life changed. One day her mother came to me crying. She said, “Thank you for helping my daughter. No one cared for her before. Thank you for helping my daughter!”
I have seen many times when deaf who were slow to understand were ignored by deaf ministries. They think it is too hard to reach them. However, we are to reach everyone – even those who might be difficult or even frustrating to reach. We must reach them. If we do not, who will? Who else will care for those who have difficulty understanding? We must do everything we can to reach and teach those who might have a hard time.
- Care for those who cannot understand easily. Let’s do everything we can so they can know about Jesus and be saved.
- Pray for wisdom to teach clearly.
- Pray for their understanding to open.
- Be patient. It took one deaf girl 5 years before she could understand and be saved.
- Continue until they understand.
Who will care for those who might be hard to reach, but who need Christ?
“I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.”– Psalms 142:4
